Mental Health Counseling in Connecticut
Shift from Surviving to Thriving with Therapy for Anxiety, OCD, and Eating Disorders in Danbury & Beyond
Life is hectic. No matter who you are or the phase you’re in, everyday challenges are, well ... every day. Responsibilities mount and your mind goes where it wants while wandering down paths of worry and fear. It’s easy to feel defeated, overwhelmed, and at your wits’ end. But life isn’t just meant to be survived; it’s meant to be enjoyed. At Cope and Calm, we take you from tolerant to triumphant and teach you how to flourish in adversity. Whether you’re dealing with anxiety, OCD, or eating disorders, we offer in-person and online mental health counseling in Connecticut, working alongside you to forge a better path.
Our brains are set up to keep us alive, not to keep us happy.
Your brain has a lot on its to-do list, and its number one priority is keeping you alive.
Because of this, it’s geared to perceive threats, sense danger, and operate from a worst-case-scenario perspective. In other words, your brain’s a bit of a negative nelly, with a built-in alarm system that’s prone to overreaction.
The brain’s vigilance, once an evolutionary benefit, can have a modern-day downside. Its protective instincts often lead to anxiety, unwanted thoughts, unrealistic fears, and intense emotions that feel as if they’ll never let up.
You’re Not Broken, Just Overloaded
Racing, intrusive thoughts, a pounding heart, and a pit in your stomach aren’t signs you’re broken; they’re signs that you’re human . . . a human with a lot on your plate!
Whether you’re dealing with pull-your-hair-out parenting stressors, dread that keeps you up at night, or all-consuming rituals zapping your time, energy, and happiness, our compassionate mental health counseling in Connecticut offers a chance to lighten your load. With evidence-based care, practical solutions, and healthy coping skills, you’ll learn to restore hope, find balance, and move forward better equipped to handle whatever life and your mind throw your way.
But your brain isn’t out to get you . . . it’s trying to tell you something: your mind harbors inner wisdom. Understanding where it’s coming from is the first step toward realizing you have control.
Our highly trained therapists will work with you to explore all of this and more: examining your challenges and your brain’s response to them, and how certain habits contribute to your ongoing chaos. In our mental health counseling sessions, you’ll have space to explore your thoughts and feelings without judgment, make changes that serve your best interests, become unstuck, and gain momentum in whatever direction aligns with your goals and values.
Meet Our Team
Amber Young, LPC, LCPC, MS, MA, NCC
Amber is the founder of Cope & Calm Counseling and is known for saying "My job is my hobby." She can often be found digging into research and attending training just for fun.
Amber encourages this thirst for professional development in her associates. She is a member of the IOCDF and trains her team to treat OCD in accordance with IOCDF recommendations. This includes Exposure Response Prevention (ERP), iCBT, and ACT. As a trauma-informed provider, she puts an emphasis on somatic healing and the mind-body connection when treating anxiety disorders.
Danielle Sterry, LPCA
Danielle is an associate at C&C with an extensive background in treating addictions through mental health counseling in Connecticut.
We know that therapy for substance use is usually trauma treatment. Addictions or maladaptive coping develops out of a need to numb. It can also serve as a way to lose a sense of control or to act in the face of our own well-being as a proclamation of control. Danielle empowers clients to create healthier patterns for themselves. She explores the influence that neurological reward systems have on decision making. Danielle also has experience treating depression, panic, anxiety, and trauma.

Yes, Things Can Get Better
When you’re stuck, it’s hard to see a way out . . . the middle of the tunnel is dark, with no light in sight.
But things can, and do, get better through specialized mental health counseling. At Cope and Calm, we witness our clients navigate the hard moments, reach inward to find authentic awareness, and experience rewarding revelations as they evolve into a stronger, more resilient person every day.
There are two types of people who struggle with mental health.
Those who find the support needed to get better, and those who lose time to the struggle while white-knuckling through life.
The first group is possible. In fact, it’s more than possible with the right support and guidance: schedule a consultation and get closer to the life you deserve.
